Data Alliance, LLC – They could do so much better… If only…

The employees at Data Alliance, LLC, could do a better job of maintaining their ordering system.  An order I placed went unnoticed from the 6th of January to the 18th of January.  This order went through the Google Wallet payment processing service.  The explanation from the employee at Data Alliance, LLC, stated that they do not interface well with this system, and that the manager would be the only one who could take care of these orders.  It was unfortunate that the Google status stated that my item shipped on the 9th of January, and I waited until the 16th of January to make my first attempt at contacting the company.

I called after-hours and left a message with my contact telephone number on the 16th of January.  I received no response on the 17th, and again left a voicemail on the company’s answering machine with my contact information that evening.  Just after leaving the message, I sent an email with the information.  On the 18th of January, I received a phone call from a representative that stated he would talk to his manager and reply to me via email about my order.  Later that evening, past the closing time for Data Alliance, LLC, I received no email, and sent another email to ask why I received no further contact.

On the 19th of January, I phoned in during my lunch break at work, to attempt to contact a representative of the company.  The person who answered the phone was the same guy as on the 18th of January.  He finally spoke to his manager while I was on the phone, and the representative came back to state that the order never made it to shipping and that he can’t do anything else but send it off to them to get it shipped.

Questioning why the Google order status showed them as shipping out the order on the 9th of January, he had no response to that, other than it was an incompatibility between Google Wallet payment processing and their in-house invoicing system.

The representative was quick to state that they wouldn’t do anything for the mix up, and wasn’t much of any help overall, besides talking to a manager to make them push my order through.  To this day, the 27th of January, I have yet to receive any sort of compensation for the shipping cost, a measly 8 dollars that I suggested would be nice of them.  Even asking for so much as a coupon for a future order seemed like it would happen only if hell froze over.

A new look for the blog

Recently, I have started to modify and build out a new theme for my blog. This theme is built using the Minimalisto theme. You might see changes occurring more frequently, at least when I have time to work on it.

Other than the new look, I modified an open source pastebin for myself, to be able to create and show text (http://www.andrewdefilippis.com/pastebin/view.php?id=b5shbknwwkyo). I started off modifying the original pastebin for use by ReachONE Internet technicians and administrators on an internal server, but decided to continue working on it for use on my own server. The index.php file is locked down for use by myself and those who I have given login credentials to. The random blog reader is not going to be able to paste any text to it, but everyone is able to view pastes that are linked to, similar to the link above.

Jasager (Fonera) Router – Changing the Wireless MAC Address and More

1.  Reboot your router (disconnect and reconnect power)
2.  Connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the Fonera
3.  Open a Secure Shell into your router (ssh 192.168.1.1 “The IP of the Fonera”)
4.  Make sure you can ping out to the internet from your Fonera router (ping google.com)

Useful Tools on the Jasager (Fonera) Router:

After installing openntpd, you need to configure it to contact the servers closest to you.
I am located in the United States, so I used the servers from us.pool.ntp.org.

1.  Open up the webif management page (http://192.168.1.1/index.html or http://192.168.1.1/webif.html)
2.  Click on the “System” tab
3.  Select the timezone that you are in
4.  Click “Save Changes” in the bottom right corner
5.  Click “Apply Changes” in the bottom right corner
At the moment, I do not recommend installing openntpd because it seems to continually spawn a new set of processes every 5 minutes or so, eventually slowing down the router. I am currently looking for a solution.

Changing the MAC addresses:

First we are going to install “macchanger” to our Jasager (Fonera) router.

root@Jasager:/etc# cd /tmp

#This is macchanger, a tool that will allow you to easily change your MAC addresses
root@Jasager:/tmp# wget http://ipkg.k1k2.de/packages/macchanger_1.5.0-1_mips.ipk
root@Jasager:/tmp# ipkg install macchanger_1.5.0-1_mips.ipk
root@Jasager:/tmp# rm *.ipk

After installing macchanger, we need to modify the file network located at /etc/init.d/network
If you installed nano, run nano network otherwise run vi network

root@Jasager:/tmp# cd /etc/init.d
root@Jasager:/etc/init.d# cp network network.bak #Make a backup of the original file
root@Jasager:/etc/init.d# chmod 444 network.bak #Make the backup file read-only

You will need to insert two lines into the file to change the MAC address
Replace “00:11:22:33:44:55″ with a MAC of your choice (make sure they are the SAME)

1.  Save the file, overwriting the existing file named “network” and reboot the router.
2.  When the router is finished booting up, run ifconfig to confirm that ath0 and wifi0 contain the MAC address you specified.
3.  Run a wireless network scanner to confirm that the router is broadcasting the new MAC address (airmon-ng and airodump-ng)

I didn’t attempt it, but you could possibly use

(ifconfig ath0 hw ether 00:11:22:33:44:55) and

(ifconfig wifi0 hw ether 00:11:22:33:44:55)

instead of

(macchanger ath0 -m 00:11:22:33:44:55) and

(macchanger wifi0 -m 00:11:22:33:44:55)
