Apple iOS 27 Causing Grid Lines in Videos

After updating to iOS 27, my iPhone 17 Pro started showing grid lines in videos played in the iOS Photos app and Synology Photos app. My wife’s iPhone 17 Pro does the same thing.

We are also not the only ones seeing this issue. Other users report seeing similar issues on iPhone 17 and 18 Pro models in Apple Community threads.

I first replied in an Apple Community thread about the iPhone 17. That thread has since been deleted, and its link now lands on an authorization denied page.

The discussion is also present in Grid lines in 18 pro max, posted on September 29, 2026. The original poster saw grid lines across different videos on an iPhone 18 Pro Max running iOS 27.

Although restarting the phone will temporarily fix the issue, this post will hopefully raise visibility and lead to a fix in an upcoming iOS 27 update.

Replied similarly for iPhone 17. This is an issue that began after updating to IOS 27. Grid artifacts disappear with zooming in. Present in iPhone Photos and Synology Photos for video playback. Restarting the phone temporarily resolves this issue.
